why does my autorecover not work?

Whenever word goes to save one of my documents it keeps returning the
following phrase: "You cannot save while the file is in use by another
process. Try saving the file with a new name."

I am not running any other programs and do not understand why this is
happening. Also if I change the name the same thing occurs.

Is anyone can help I would be really appreciative as I am currently writing
a dissertation and would be really stuck if my computer crashed and it wasnt
saved through autorecovery.

This could be a problem with something like anti-virus software or a file
management system. Norton AV Plug-in is notorious, for example.

You might want to at least copy/paste the text into a Notepad (or WordPad)
file, so that if there is a problem you don't end up losing everything.
