why does my printer print duplicate images of scanned graphics?

I run win2000 pro with office 2003 andan HP PSC 2110 3in 1 printer, scanner,
copier. When i insert from the scanner to an office program the printer
scales down and prints multiple duplications of the image. How can I stop
this or what is the reason this happens?
