why does outlook place a +1 in front of all my local telephone num

My assistant has been entering all the phone numbers in outlook 2003. She
placed a few with a 1 in the prefix due to long distance. Now every phone
number she enters including the local numbers includes a +12 in the prefix.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Check the telephone location settings of the computer;
Control Panel-> Phone and Modem Options

You probably need to update the affected contacts afterwards.
