Why does PowerPoint 2002 freeze loading pics or "Save As"?

I've been working with Microsoft PowerPoint and have encountered problems
over the past few days. I can open files and work with them, but when I go to
insert a file (say and image) or "Save As" the program freezes ("Not
Responding"). I've checked the Microsoft Updates site to see if there is a
fix, but have not come up with anything. Now, it is happening with Micrsoft
Word as well. Any ideas?

Did you have a security update recently?
Might be the cause of KB908531.
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Put a checkmark on Show updates.
Search for KB908531, remove it and see if it works.
