why does word 2003 open slowly?

I looked on the discussion board to find an answer, and thought I was being
directed correctly by getting rid of Norton because it slows office word.
Couldn't get rid of Norton. Pop up message said "Setup has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I wasn't
trying to SETUP anything, I was trying to get rid of it. (I do have McAfee
installed, so I wasn't worried about getting rid of Norton) I sent the error
report to Microsoft. What do I do to get Word to open normally. Excel,
PowerPoint, and Outlook are okay.

I looked at the articles - no joy. I tried to delete (or change the name of)
Normal.dot, but could not find it anywhere even when I asked to show all
hidden files. Norton support does not saqy how to uninstall Norton. I have
found that it is just not office 2003 word that is slow open and it takes
about five minutes to load a file, but excel pops up real quick but takes
about 5 minutes for a file to be loaded in the program. Somebody help.

It IS Norton. Until you can uninstall it, go into Norton and go to the
Miscellaneous settings (sorry... I don't own it, so I dunno exact steps) and
disable the Office plug in.
