Why does word want to save to documents?

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel After a reboot, I make new file,save as, Word has Docuemnts listed as place to save to. Why? I hate Documents. Prefer desktop. Is there a prefercne to change this default? thanks.

How someone can hate something as inanimate as a folder, a mystery to
me... anyway, check out Menu: Word, Preferences, Icon: File Locations,
setting for "documents".

I think I read somewhere that Desktop is a "special" folder and Apple
doesn't recommend storing stuff there. I don't remember why and can't
think why. It's just a recollection.

I store documents by default into Documents/Writing with some subfolders
under there for specific projects.
