Why don't I see dates in the details view of File - Open?

When I open files in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc, I often sort by "Last
Modified Date" in descending order to quickly locate a file that I have
recently worked on. When I got Office 2003, the dates were there, then
disappeared. I downloaded something, and they came back. Now they are gone
again. What is going on???

You may have inadvertently turned the view of the column off. In the
Open dialog, right-click any column heading and turn "Date Modified"
back on.
