why use FrontPage extensions?

FrontPage is a great design program but the idea of the server extensions
being needed to make the pages work stinks. So far every server I have used
has problems with the extensions being installed. If MS knows how poorly it
works why do they keep using this system??

The system does work poorly at all. It does exactly what it's supposed to
do. However, if you want to use advanced functions such as page transitions
you will need to place your site on a web hosting service that supports
these extensions. There are lots of them out there!

sorry my frustration was making me rant
I have got this to work on a previous site I designed, just can't remember
how I did that.

They use it hoping these proprietary, non-standard, buggy "extensions"
will encourage hosting providers to replace their Unix webservers with
Windows crapola. This strategy has not met with notable success.

I understand your frustration and need to rant.

While, I dearly love FrontPages assitance over my use of Wordperfect to
write HTML code then the multi-step process to evoke a browser to view what
I had just coded . . I also am aware that I still cannot count on things
looking exactly as they will to visitors unless I publish it to the server
and then view it.

Especially troubling to me are the ways that FrontPage 2003 wont render
valid CSS. In certain cases I still need to leave FrontPage and evoke a
browser to view what I have done. Yuk!

Since there are fp extensions for UNIX and Linux, your statement makes no
sense at all.
