why won't email import from excel or access to outlook contacts?

At first when I tried importing an excel spreadsheet to outlook, everything
was fine, except for the email address, which would not import. I tried
several different experiments, and now NOTHING will import.

I've even tried first exporting the contacts from outlook to excel, deleting
the contacts (leaving only the headings) and then inputting new info. Still,
a no go.

Any ideas? Thank you!!
