Will Office 97 work on XP system?

with the Office 97? I really only have to have the Excel program.

I have tried installing Office 97 Pro on an XP Pro SP2 base system and get
the error message "Htmlmarq.ocx was unable to register itself in the
registry." Subsequently, Outlook was not installed or it just won't work but,
Word and Excell seem to work ok.
