Window pops up on new mail

Outlook 2002

When new mail arrives to the inbox/deleted items, Outlook will become
the new 'front' program. In other words if i have I.E. open Outlook
takes it's place.

How to stop?

do you have the latest service packs? does the whole program take focus or
just the alert dialog?

whole program. if i am in the sent items folder and switch to i.e. then
it won't take precedence.

have not installed any sp's. suppose i should though.
