Windows XP SP2 and Office 2000 Pro

New machine under Windows XP Pro SP2. Trying to install old Office 2000 Pro
from CD (legal copy) but install only goes so far and then hangs. Restart
but system won't proceed because first install didn't finish. Same problem
with MS Works. Solution please?
