Word 2000 hangs and uses all resources

Every time we start up this Word 2000 installation it hangs, goes into some
kind of loop and uses up all system resources on Windows 98. This ends in a
message saying there aren't enough system resources.

After this everything goes white and we have to press ctrl-alt-delete twice
to reboot. The first time we press ctrl-alt-delete a white dialogue comes up
saying the program has performed an illegal operation, but this dialogue is
unresponsive.

What can be wrong? We've tried installing servicepacks for both Office and
Windows, and reinstalling Word doesn't fix it either.

Additionally:
Is there a tool to clean out Office 2000 from the computer entirely so that
we can reinstall from absolute scratch?

Regards...

Case closed - normal.dot was corrupted. We deleted it and Word recreated
it - problem solved.

This one I still don't know, though.

This has become a real issue recently for many users that are using both MS Office and Norton Anti-Virus. It seems as though the guys over at Symantec have really screwed up the most recent NAV update in that it has frigged the Office Plug-in portion of the product. If this seems to fit your scenario continue on reading.

1) it does not matter if it is a network or local drive
2) you may also see a delay in characters showing up on screen as you type.

Corrective measure:

Open NAV-
Go to Options-
Verify you are adjusting NAV options-
Go to Miscellaneous-
Turn off the Office Plug-in-
Say OK

Give that a try and let us know.
