Word 2003 envelope size wrong

T

Tim Green

I'm using Office 2003, and have done all the updates. When I select an
envelope (size 9), and print it, Word always cuts off my return address and
prints the destination address too far left.

I've discovered it seems to be using size 10, even though I've specified
size 9.

Anyone know why this is and/or how to correct it?

Thanks.

Since I don't have size 9 envelopes available to test this, yeah I
know I could cut some paper to size and if necessary I'll do that ;-),
but does this occur if you add the envelope to the document and then
print it?

Beth,

I hadn't tried that, but after reading your message, I did.

Unfortunately, it does the same thing. Perfect fit for a size 10 envelope
(which is to say it completely messes up my size 9...)

Thanks for the suggestion, though...

Something you can try is to modify the Envelope Return and Envelope
Address styles. The address frames, position, formatting, etc are
stored in the Envelope styles. So if you modify the defaults for the
styles it may correct the printing issue.

- Add an envelope to a document
- Move the return address frame and address frame so they print
correctly (you may need to perform a few texts)
- Go to Format/Style to turn on the Styles and Formatting task pane
- Select the Envelope Return frame
- On the Styles and Formatting task pane, hover your mouse over the
"Envelope Return" style and watch for the drop down menu to appear
- Open the menu and select "Update to Match Selection"
- Open the menu again and click "Modify"
- In the Modify Style dialog turn on "Add to template"
- Do the same for the Envelope Address style

Beth,

Unfortunately, I cannot select the Return Address frame. There appears to be
no frame. There is one for the Destination (that I can move), but all
attempts to click around the return address do not show or select a frame...

My apologies, I was going from memory. (Mental note: always verify!! )

I cut some paper down to size and I didn't encounter the issues you
previously described. I'm wondering if modifying the Feed Method would
help. (In the Envelopes dialog click the Options command.)

If that doesn't work then for the Return Address you can insert it
into a frame so it can be saved with the style:

- Turn on the Forms toolbar (View/Toolbars)
- Select the Return Address
- Click the "Insert Frame" command on the Forms toolbar
- Go to Format/Borders and Shading and select "None" to remove the
border
- Move/Size the frame for the correct position
- Select the frame
- On the Styles and Formatting task pane use the "Update to Match
Selection" command for the "Envelope Return" style
- Then click the "Modify Style" command and turn on "Add to Template"

If either of these options do not work then you may need to create
your own Envelope template instead. That's easy to do too - just let
us know if you need help. :)
