Word 2003 opens a new window when I try to view .doc in browser

Does anyone know why Word documents open in a new window when viewed from
within a browser. My older versions of Word integrated into the browsers
like any other html document, but Word 2003 opens up its own window. Is this
a bug or is there something I can set to keep this from happening.

In Word go to Tools/Options/View and turn off "Windows in Taskbar".
