word 2003 print layout very slow

Hi,
Just upgraded from office xp to office 2003 and in the
new word 2003 the 'print layout' view is very slow. When
I type normal text the text only appears after 0,5 - 1
sec..... absolutely not workable.
I checked the cpu load when i type text in this view and
even with my laptop set to full-speed ([email protected] with
512 Mb RAM) it results in 100 % cpu load.......
I've tried quite a lot of settings (disabled almost
everything) to speed it up, but none seem to help. Does
someone know if this is normal, or if i'm doing something
wrong.

This is NOT normal; 100% CPU rarely is...

If you hold down CTRL, then start up Word from an icon, do
you still see the problem?

If yes, how about when starting WINDOWS in Safe mode?

Several possible causes, so in order of likelihood...

The language settings are conflicting: check that the Regional Language
settings (in Control Panel) and the language settings of the Spelling and
Grammar checker in Word are all the same. You can quickly see if that is
cause by gong to Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar tab and deselecting
the check spelling and check grammar while you type options.

You have a corrupt or missing printer driver.

The graphics driver needs updating: go to the Internet support site for
either the laptop or graphics card vendor and check that you have the latest
driver available.

You have Voice Recognition active. Make sure it is disabled or if you never
use it, uninstall it using Add/Remove Programs.
