I'm having this problem with Word 2003 (working on a 2.8 GHz, 512 MB ram,
160G 7200 RPM drive machine).
if I run word and then try to load a file, it takes 3 seconds to start word,
another 2 or 3 seconds to load the file.
if, however, i double-click the doc file in exlorer it takes 18-30 seconds
to load the same file ready for editing.
obviously, something in word is holding up the loading. perhaps a scan of
some kind, perhaps something else. I can't figure it out. The same slow
start happens if you double-click on an email attachment to load it.
what could be causing this? where to look next?
