Word 2003 Spell Check problem

When I am spell checking a document it will default to another language such
as french even though english uk is set as default. How can I fix this?

Hi,
If you use Word as mail editor you have to set the default Language for the
Spellcheck in the Word program.

Hi dave,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried manually settting the language
in Word. i have also tried turning off the language detect but it still
defaults to another language when trying to spell check the doc. It seems to
pick up the word element as being French? Any other ideas?

Control panel
Regional and Language Options
Language tap
Details button
Under Default input language set English (US)
Click Apply and OK.

Sorry still no luck. Thanks again though. I have tried the usual like
deleting the normaldot.doc etc but nothing seems to work. I have had a look
on a few sites but nothing. Have you tried it on your pc? Open a new word
doc and type the word element and run the spell check and see what happens.

I have had similar problems but with it defaulting to US English. I put
it down to the documents being sent to me from elsewhere by someone who
doesn't have their settings setup correctly for the UK. It doesn't
happen on documents that I generate but only seems to occur on documents
that are generated by others.

Hi Ian,

Yes I have found the same. It only seems to be that document, not sure
where it was created from. I thought maybe a simple copy and paste to a new
doc would work but no such luck. Think I am just going to leave it as i can't
find a solution anywhere.

Check as follows,
Start < All Programs < Microsoft Office Tools < Microsoft Language Settings <
Enabled Languages tap
Check English (Uk)
Uncheck Languages you don't use.
Click Apply and OK.

Hi Hamy, try this solution that I found on another posting from Word
"spellcheck not checking some text" 2/8/2005 12:57 AM PST By:
garfield-n-odie

Press Ctrl+A to select all of the text in the document. Click on
Tools | Language | Set Language | <choose your language> | uncheck the "Do
not check spelling or grammar" and "Detect language automatically" boxes |
Default | OK. Press F7 to rerun spellcheck.

This worked for me!
