Word 2003 text resize

Joe

I just upgraded a client - law firm from Word 97 to Word
2003 (Win 98 to XP Pro). When they print out a document -
it prints out smaller than it did in 97. I emulated the
same settings from the document on 97. Has anyone had this
problem??

Thanks,

Joe

Several possible reasons come to mind for what you're seeing:

1. WinXP uses a different printer driver for a given printer than Win98, and differences between the drivers can cause printed output to be slightly different. There isn't much you can do about this.

2. The base font in the Word 2003 normal.dot template is smaller than the base font in the Word 97 normal.dot template. If this is the case, you can modify the base font (Normal style) in the Word 2003 normal.dot template.

3. Printer scaling is enabled in the Word 2003 computer. Look for this option in the "File | Print" menu, and reset it to 100% if it is currently something less.

4. If the right and bottom margins are 2" or more in the printed output, but are only about 1" on screen, then turn off balloons in Tools | Options | Track Changes, or click on File | Print | Print what: Document (instead of Document with Markup).

How much smaller? Have you changes OSes or printers? Either will cause a
change in the printer driver, which might account for a difference (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TextReflow.htm), but if your whole
document is shrunk to about 80% and is in the upper left-hand corner of the
page, then you probably have comments or tracked changes in it.
