Word 2004 for Mac--2nd footnote goes right below first--wrong page

Hi, I've been using Word 2004 for Mac since August but suddenly it refuses to
put my second footnote anywhere else than directly after the end of my first
footnote. This is on the wrong page. It's doing all sorts of other strange
things with the header too. It takes me three times as long to put a header
in because it changes my default font to Helvetica. Please let me know what
to do about my footnote problem. It's taking me a lot longer to do my job,
and I look unprofessional.
