Word 2007 and SpellChecker

M

Marion

I have used a Gaelic (Scottish) spellchecker which no longer works now that
I've upgraded to Office 2007. It works OK with docs that were created in
2003 but not with new docs. I have installed the spellchecker and it
appears to be OK but, when I do a spellcheck, it reverts to English for each
and every word.

I have also tried to set the Editing Language in Word Options but Scottish
Gaelic is not an option here.

What should I do?

Presumably the fact that the spellchecker is Gaelic is irrelevant. Have
other users found that they need to match the spellchecker with the Language
Settings in Word Options?

No, I believe it was designed for 2003.

Then it is not too surprising that you are having trouble in 2007.
Microsoft changed things in the spell check component of 2007 (like they
did for almost every Office version). So a 2003 spell checker can very
well not work with 2007.

Thank you for your reply - that's very interesting. I had thought that the
spell checker might be a module which would not necessarily change from
version to version.

Not necessarily. Take a look at my RTM Issues page linked below my name
and scroll down to the section about English missing as a proofing
language in Outlook Express after installing Office 2007.
