Word 2007 Converts \ to yen

When using Word 2007, the backslash (\) is replaced with the yen character.
How do I get Word 2007 to properly display the backslash?

Are you maybe using a font that has the yen symbol in place of the
backslash character?

Are you using a keyboard for some language other than English?

Is it possible that you've enabled a Japanese keyboard layout? When that layout
is in English mode, the key assigned to the backslash on US keyboards does
insert the yen character.
