Word 2007 Crashes When doing a Simple Save

Word 2007 was working fine for a couple of months. For some reason it had a
glitch and stopped. It saved a couple of files as "Recovered." Since then it
will not save any file without "Stopped Responding." It has become no better
than an electronic "Etch-a-Sketch." Save = Not Responding. Save as = Not
Responding. Close = Not Responding.

It will "Look for a solution" without ever coming up with one."

Any thought as to how I can overcome this several hundred dollar "Etch-a
Sketch" problem will be welcomed. (Sorry "Etch-a-Sketch" you work every time.)

As near as I can tell, Microsoft doesn't offer any support for this.
(Without paying through the nose.)

What happens if you start Word in Safe Mode? From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document, edit and save now. Does it work OK in Safe
Mode?
