Word 2007 Spell Check Not working

Help! I'm using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 ....
My spell check just stopped working within the last couple of weeks. The
grammar check still works (my gosh, it still works), but I can't get spell
check to pick up anything - nothing underlined, nothing autocorrecteed,
NOTHING. I've tried several of the tips I've seen on this site (examining the
language settings, looking at the regedit, making sure all my word options
are set up correctly). So far, nothing as worked.
This is a pretty dire situation for me ... and my poor dissertation is now
littered with typos and spelling errors.
Help!

Also, I forgot to add- spell check IS working in Power Point and other Office
applications.

I've attempted all the steps listed and it STILL isn't catching any spelling
errors on the screen or during a spelling and grammar check.
Could there be something wrong with the word template? If so, how would I
find out and fix it (I'm not awesome, obviously, with technology)

You're absolutely certain the text isn't formatted as "Do not check spelling
or grammar"?

Yes ... it's actually still doing a grammar check. The only thing it's not
doing is checking the spelling
