Word: Command cannot be performed

Sorry, I don't know where (or if) Norton puts anything in the
registry. If an artifact Norton Office Plugin is causing the
problem, then unregistering officeav.dll is usually sufficient.
Have you tried renaming the officeav.dll files to officeav.old?

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=827732 "You receive a
command cannot be performed error message when you double-click
to open a document from Word 2003" for another possibility.
