Word crashes when opening documents created in Pages

I have a severe problem with MS Word crashing when I try to open documents
that were created in Pages and then exported to .doc or .docx. It does not
matter if it's text only or documents containing images. Neither does it
matter if it's lots of text, or just some lines. Does anyone have an idea how
I can solve this? I've written an entire book in pages, but the publisher
wants it in word format, and now I'm f&/"#ing loosing my deadline over silly
computer issues. Sigh.

The first question to answer is "Does Word crash when you try to open .doc
or .docx files that *weren't* created by Pages?" If it does that's one
thing. If not, you're looking in the wrong place

There isn't much - if anything at all - that Word can do about files created
by other software. So if your problem stems only from Pages files you'll
need to get some help from Apple. Apparently Pages isn't doing a very good
job of mimicking the file format.

In a pinch you might try saving from Pages as .rtf to see if you have better
