word document closing by itself

I have a co-worker that insists her Microsoft Word documents automatically
close.
I know it must be a user errror but I cannot figure it out. When I stand
there it doesn't happen. However, she does wind up with lots of autorecovery
documents.
Any clues on what she is doing to create this? She insists they just go
away and is not asked to save to them before closing.
