Word Document open delay caused by disconnected template.

We have about 3,000 documents that are based off templates. I was unaware
that word looks for the original template when it opens. Does anyone have an
automated way to modify these documents and remove that link and replace it
with normal.dot? Here are some other issues with the documents. They are
filled in forms with data, and they are password protected forms. Currently
they take 3 min for it to time out before we can open the documents. I've
looked for as much info as I can and haven't found a solution yet.

Second thing I'm searching for is to be able to use a template but turn off
the link back to the template on every document we create off of it.

thx
Mike

Second question first - detaching documents from templates as formed. You
could have an AutoNew macro in your templates that attaches the new document
to the user's normal.dot.

First question, you need to attach the result document to something else.
You can speed this up tremendously by logging off your network as you do it.
There is code floating around that attaches all documents in a folder to
normal.dot, but I don't think it deals with documents protected for forms.

Hi Charles,

Could direct me where to go for some sample code to detach the template with
the Autonew macro. As for the second answer I'm not sure what you mean by
logging off my network. Another issue we incounter is that when we send
these result documents to customers they take 3 min to open and they are not
on our network. Do you know where I could find that code I saw some info
about that code too but never could actually find the code.

thx

Code: I know that there is a knowledge base article that addresses this and
one of the MVP's wrote some code for it but I haven't been able to located
it.

Customer problems are the same as yours, and will be fixed by attaching your
documents to your normal.dot before sending them out.

As for not logging in to your network, I mean operate the computer as if the
network is not there. If necessary, disconnect the cable.
