If you just want to locate them, press Ctrl + F and type in the word you want
to find.

If you want to count the time of occurance of the word, press Ctrl + H and
enter the word in BOTH the Find what and Replace with field. Then click
Replace All. (Since you are replacing an item with its carbon copy, nothing
will be modified in your document.) Word will come back with the time of
occurance of the word.

Use the find function. It's under the Edit menu. If you check the
"highlight" box, word will highlight all instances of the word you are
looking for. If you only want to find that specific word, click on the
"more" button and choose "Find whole words only" and this will only find the
whole word. I'm not sure if you can get this fucntion to count the instances
of a specific word, however the find function takes you through the document
and therefore you will be able to tell if there is more than one instance, it
will also let you know when it's finished checking the whole document or a
section rather than just loop you through again and again.
