Word Documents larger than 32mb

I saved a large amount of text as a word pad document prior to loading MS
Word. When word was loaded it converted teh original document but as it was
over 32 mb I now cannot open it. Does anyone have any solutions please?

Restore the original from backup. 32MB is a hell of a lot of text. How big
was it as a WordPad document?
