Word Fails to launch after Entourage installation

Brandon110

Had MAC Office 2004 installed and initally did not have Entourage installed.
Will be migrating to exchange soon so went back and performed a custom
installation sucessfully. Entourage opens and will eventually test and
configure in the environment.

Issue now is that when I attempt to launch Word, the OSX default mail
program prompts for setup and then MAC Office is "not responding" Have to
force quit both programs. Attempted to completely remove default mail program
with same issues.

Removing MAC Office preferences still produce same errors under adminstrator
account. Currently running Mac OSx updated to 10.4.11. MAC Office is another
issue, because I am attempting to update to see if it corrects above and
receiving failures or non responding from auto-updater. I thought that
updating MAC office to 11.4 would resolve issues.

Problem is now two-fold:

Entourage is now installed but Word execution will produce default OSX mail
program opens and Word is non responding.

Unable to update MAC Office because Auto-update times out and attempts to
manually run install the 11.3.5 updatermultiple times receive "current
installer could not locate the correct version of software required to
install this update.

Hi Brandon:

I think you have several problems.

First, download the Mac Office 2004 update 11.3.5 as a file and save it
(don't try to apply it yet...)

Then quite all Microsoft applications and Zip your Microsoft User Data
folder, then drag it to your desktop.

Now, run Disk Utility and do a Repair Permissions.

Now, reboot.

The Office 11.3.5 update should now run correctly to completion.

Now start Entourage and configure a default account. That will create a new
MUD folder.

Then go to Help and Check for Updates.

That should suck in several further updates.

Now, repair permissions and reboot again.

From there, everything should run properly. If there was anything valuable
in your MUD, you can now replace it.

I think the issue (or at least, one of the issues...) is that when Entourage
started, it was not updated, and thus could not read the MUD Database, which
had been converted by the updates when they were applied to the other
applications.

You may have other issues to be solved, but we have to get Entourage 2004 to
run first.

Hope this helps

I already applied disk utility permission repair after updated tiger to
10.4.11. I appreciate the response. I think the issues are MUD and customize
install of Entourage later from the initial install.

I am going to try this again with your suggestions and let you know the
outcome.

Thanks

Hi Brian:

I agree. Make sure you re-run the Disk Utility. It is amazing how often it
seems to fix things that it technically isn't supposed to...

Cheers
