Hi,
Users in my office are am having a peculiar problem while opening word
documents from Shared drives.
Usually whenever a user opens an word document, which has already been
opened by someone else.
He gets a dialogue box File in Use with the following options " xyz.doc is
locked for editing by abc.
Do you want to: (you get 3 radio buttons stating)
Open a Read Only Copy
Create a local copy and merge your changes later
Receive notifcation when the original copy is available."
But in a case when a user who has read-only rights on a particular document
opens the file. And if another user who has a modify rights on that document
opens the file. The user having the modify rights doesn't get the above
dialogue box. Instead the word document directly opens as read-only.
Can you let me know if the File in Use dialogue box can always be enforced
when a word document is open.
The version of Microsoft Word being used is Microsoft Word 2002 SP2
Awaiting your reply.
Warm Regards,
Girish
