Word Freezes before opening

I have Windows 98, and Word 2000. Word has worked fine
for about 2 years then suddenly whenever I try and bring
up the program it freezes the entire computer. I can't
even get to an error message because the last thing
visible before I have to reboot is the small blue
rectangle which announces the name of the product; Word
2000.

Word came with this Gateway computer. I tried
uninstalling, and then reinstalling and I get the same
error.

Any help greatly appreciated.

It was my normal.dot file that was corrupted. But thanks
for anyone who was going to help. What does concern me,
though, is how many people have this exact same problem.
Seems like the program needs some tweaking.
