Word has encountered problems and must shut down

I have Word installed on my laptop and a wireless network.
When at home and connected to the network I have no
problem but when not connected to the network--
In opening word I receive the message "Microsoft Word has
encountered problems and must shut down". I cannot open
my files. Any suggestions?

This also happends with Streets and Trip but not excel or
anything else.

Do you have a printer installed locally? You don't have to have a printer
physically connected to the computer, but you do need a driver installed on
the local HD.
