Word: How to spell check in French?

I have switched the document language to French at the bottom of the page.
When I spell check it doesn't recognize any words. Anyone know how to fix
this?

Is the language of the document set to French? Ctrl+A to select the entire
document, then go to Tools | Language | Set Language and choose the
appropriate flavor of French.
