Word in Office 2000 Pro will no longer launch

Our Word no longer launches and goes non-responding - will not open. We have
search the online info for weeks and have been using the
"start/run/winword.exe /a" to do our work and now it fails to mail merge with
our GoldMine 6.0. We have repaired/uninstalled/installed many times and
nothing has worked. How do we get our original Word to work as designed?

My guess is that starting Word with the /a switch suppresses an
add-in that integrates Goldmine with Word.
