Word into Word or Header pg1 or Protect Doc Problem

I find it really unusal that you cannot insert a Word file into a Word file
the way you can with Adobe Acrobat Pro. That is such a useful feature. If I
could, I could insert our letterhead, as a separate file, into any document
as page one and not have to deal with subsequent page/different first page
formatting issues - which don't work in this case:

I can clear the the letterhead header information on subsequent pages to the
first, but I can't clear the space it uses and our letterhead header is 3.5"
- so to have a 3.5" blank spot on pages 2 - x is ridiculous. It would be so
easy to insert our letterhead page as a separate file, as page 1 of a
document - BUT Word doesn't allow you to insert a Word doc into a Word doc.
This is so easy to do with Adobe. I am very dissapointed with this severe
limitation of Word.

So, then, I created a page, with our complex letterhead information (3
columns) at the top of the page (not as a header) and then put in a section
break to eliminate the column format and set it up to lock that information
from being changed through the "Protect Document" feature.

But, then, I cannot keep the highlighting from showing up throughout the
rest of the document where "Allow changes" is set. In other words, from that
point forward I don't want each person that uses this document to have to
keep turing off the highlighted section(s) of "Allow changes from this point
forward." I just want them to create their own document with a locked
letterhead logo section at the top. You should be able to save the document
and reopen it without the "Highlighted OK to create/use/change section" going
forward.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Greg

You can insert a document into a document. What makes you think you cannot?
Insert, Object, Office Word Document (if you are using Word 2007) or you can
add the Insert File command to the QAT. (Previous version had a similar
command).

But this is not the way to do this and you certainly don't need to have a
3.5" margin on every page. I suggest that you read the really excellent
tutorial by fellow Word MVP Suzanne which explains the simple procedure in
easy steps.

Thank you, Terry for the Insert Object. I came upon that before and stopped
short at the "Text from file" part. By QAT do you mean Quick Access Taskbar?
Thank you also for the additional references. I do see the Part I: Creating
Simple Templates by Suzanne S. Barnhill. Is this the only one by her you were
referring to or was there another one, also. I will need a little more time
to pursue this later today, but Thanks again, I see this is the right site to
be on.
