Word is opening pps attachments in Outlook

I work with Office 2000 and lately all my power point attachments in Outlook
are being opened by Word, so they appear garbled. I need to save them first,
and then open with Power Point. Is there a way that Outlook may recognize
that it is a .pps extension file?

Would greatly appreciate sombebody's help in this very annoying situation.

It sounds like your file associations have gotten "mixed up"
The easiest fix is to click on Help, Detect & Repair from within PowerPoint.
