Word is spell checking in French

On some documents Word all of a sudden decides to do it's spell checking in French. If I copy and paste the text into a new document this sometimes corrects the problem but now always. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

Select all the text (Ctrl+A), then go to Tools | Language | Set Language and
make sure that all the text is formatting as whatever variety of English (or
other language) you intend to use. Then clear the check box for "Detect
language automatically."
