word loads slooowly!

hello,

just migrated from office2000 to 2003. when opening any
file from "my documents" folder, word takes 15-20 seconds
to load. this does not happen when starting a blank word
document, then "my documents", then any file. fwiw, this
behaviour affects all document types in the "my documents
folder (word, excel, p.p., etc.)
