word not opening correctly.

When I try and open word, I get that it has encountered a problem and needs
to close. Then it ask to open word in safe mode. I am unable to open docs
that have been saved in this mode. I have used the installation disk to
repair and even reistall, but I get the same response. Please help.

I had norton on my computer but I have since deleted it. I have mcafee, does
this pose a problem. To be honest I think that my problems started when I
deleted norton from my hard drive.

Also, when I was trying things in my control panel, it tells me that
microsoft explorer has encountered a problem. My excel, PPT, and outlook are
all fine.
