Word occasionally 'loses' characters

Hi

I'm using Word 2003 11.6502.6708 SP1, and often type in French words
with accented characters. I have noticed that occasionally characters
will get 'lost' from a word in the document. As an example, the word
"régional" (with an accent on the 'e') will become " egional" (the
first character becomes unprintable, and the second loses its accent).

Looking at a file with this problem in a binary file editor such as
Textpad shows that the character that should be an 'r' is actually set
to 00; the 'e' is set to 65 as would be expected.

I have checked my Autocorrect settings, and there is nothing obvious
there.

Are there any known bugs in Word 2003 which might explain this, or is
there another culprit that might be the cause of this issue?

Thanks in advance for any help

Kind regards

Richard Thomas
