Word/Office-98 Error type 2

Chetty Ramanathan

I have MS Office 98 running on a Powermac8500 running OS9.1. I
reinstalled Microsoft Office and when I try to save a document in
Microsoft Word I get a message saying "Error Type 2", Application
unexpectedly quit... etc. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi Chetty

You might want to try the following:
1 quit Word
2 go to your Office 98 folder and then open the templates folder
3 remove normal

You also might want to do a search for word settings (9) and remove it

Here is an explanation of error type 2 from an old compilation:

ID=02 Address Error
The Motorola 68000 microprocessor can access memory in increments of one
byte (8 bits), one word (16 bits), or one long word (32 bits). The
microprocessor can access a byte of information at an odd or even memory
address. But it must access a word or long word at an even memory
address. So, when the microprocessor attempts to read or write a word or
long word at an odd address, you see this error. Since that's a 50/50
proposition when running random code, this one shows up quite often.

Though it refers to an older processor than you are probably using, the
explanation is still valid.
