Word Procedure Monitoring - Rapid Repagination Problem

Something gets hold of my documents sometimes making the cursor alternate
rapidly between the I beam and the hourglass. I can also catch a glimpse of
"Repaginating..." in the status bar.

I think some procedure or other causes the repagination, which runs the
procedure, which causes repagination which...

you get the idea. :-(

How can I monitor the internal activities of Word, perhaps in similar
fashion to Task Manager in Windows?
