Word saving extra extra slow

I am experiencing problems with Word on my new laptop.
When I click on "save," it takes at least 45 seconds to
save and says either that it is "preparing to save" or
preparing auto recover.

Also, when I click on the Word icon to get started in the
morning, it takes up to 2 minutes to even open the
program, let alone a document.

Any advice appreciated!
