Word should have an option to prevent spell check on areas of text

I am a new IT Instructor on our campus and I notice that all of the
instructors include some type of code in their documents that they teach
from. Whether it be Access Control Lists for routers or JavaScript.

Word should have an option that would allow the user to highlight a block of
text, then click a button and that block of text will be ignored for spelling
and grammer checks.

Word does have such an option. Select the text you don't want spell-checked,
go to Tools | Language | Set Language, and check the box for "Do not check
spelling or grammar." To facilitate applying this formatting, define a
paragraph or character style that includes this property.
