Word Template Problem

Hi, having a word template problem. I have a template that has date fileds imbeded into it so that when a new document is created it will put in the current date. Now, I need to figure out how to strip the field but leave the date after the template is initiated and the user has created thier document. Currently since the date field stays and say a user works on the document for 3 days it will continously update to the current date instead of leaving the original date it was created. Any help? Thanks!
