Word - Tools - Options - Compatibiltiy

While trying to customize Word 2003 in Office 2003, I
checked the default button on the compatibility tab in
options. Print lay-out view shows a grid-line around a
blank document & 'placeholder'-type marks at the top
corners of those grids.
Is there a way to 'undo' this action so that I just see a
completely blank new document in this view?

Hi Mike

The line around the page isn't from anything in the Compatibility tab
-- it's the Text Boundaries option on the View tab. Clear that
checkbox.

If the corner marks are still visible afterward, that indicates you
have support for one or more Asian languages enabled. Go to Start >
Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft
Office 2003 Language Settings, select any Asian languages, and click
Remove.

Thank you Jay. Your 1st suggestion worked. I now have a
clear blank page.
As an aside, do you have any idea why this aspect changed
when I did what I described?

I'm glad to hear you're back where you want.

I can't think of any reason for the change. I'm not able to duplicate
it. Was the dropdown above the list set to "Word 2003" or to something
else when you clicked the Default button?
