Word version in Office 97

Word usually opens and then minimizes at once. I have to
right click on the minimized file and then select
maximize. The behavior is inconsistant but it happens more
offten than not.

Any suggestions?

Right click on Word executable that use to launch Microsoft Word, click
"Properties" > Shortcut (tab), in the "Run:" pop down menu choose
"Maximized" > Apply and OK.

Most likely Word is opening in a Normal window offscreen. Right-click on the
Taskbar button for the document. If your choices include Maximize and
Minimize but not Restore, then that's the problem. Open any other window,
then right-click on an empty area of the Taskbar and choose Cascade. This
should bring the Word window back in view. Move and size it to your
preference (and to set the new location), then quit Word. When you restart
Word, the window should be where you left it.
