Word won't accept default printer paper tray

I run MS Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate (as virtual machine residing on Mac OS
10.4 via Parallels). My printer (HP6980) has upper and lower paper trays. I
have selected the lower tray as default printing preference in Control
Panel/Printers, and also in Word Options, but Word persists in trying to
print from the upp er tray, which I reserve for special printing (envelopes,
checks, etc.). I have no similar problem with any other program including
Excel and Outlook, or with my browser.
I will greatly appreciate a fix.
